 Born and
raised in Colombia, Mr. Ospina attended the University of California
at Berkeley, graduating in Economics in 1955.
After
returning to Colombia in 1955, Mr. Ospina acted as General
Manager of Zenú, a meat processing plant which he started and
with which he remained until the early sixties. While with Zenú he
was a member of the board of directors of several leading companies
based in his home city, Medellín.
In
1969 he moved to Bogotá, to join Avianca airlines. There he acted
first as Director of Commercial Planning in charge of market
studies, route planning and aircraft evaluation, all relating to the
commercial side of their operation. During this time he was
deeply involved with IATA's Cost Committee, of which he was
vice-president during several periods. At the time he left
Avianca, he was International Commercial Director, in charge
of international marketing for the whole international
passenger operation.
Mr.
Ospina and his wife Martha live in Bogotá, but they both like to
travel and spend part of the year in Cartagena, Colombia. His
hobbies include music and amateur radio. He is an amateur guitar
player, and enjoys listening to music, both classical and
popular.
